SKILLS FOR LIFE FOUNDATION

Skills for life is the name of our vocational and educational training
programs.
Our classes target underprivileged and orphaned children in Guatemala.Skills-for-Life-Fundaninos-Feb-2012-4-1024x577Skills-for-Life-January-2013-9-1024x718
We set up and operate computer training centers and carpentry workshops.
Classes are also taught in culinary arts and English.
? Our goal is to provide students with practical life skills that
will enable them to achieve a better quality of life and acquire gainful
employment. We strive to foster positive qualities such as self
confidence, motivation, and integrity to assist the children in
overcoming the marginalization and resulting lack of self-esteem often
prevalent in impoverished communities.
?In order to multiply our efforts, we train others so that our
programs can continue to grow and expand.Skills-for-Life-Fundaninos-December-2012-21-1024x824Skills-for-Life-Fundaninos-August-2012-111-1024x673

WOODWORKING AND ENGINEERING

Our Skills for Life woodworking program at the orphanage Fundaninos
works to provide our students with practical life skills that will
enable them to achieve a better quality of life and acquire gainful
employment. In our woodworking classes the students learn to make pens,
crafts and bracelets.
Our more advanced students are working on “Carpentry 2.0” projects.
Through our pre-engineering class, they are learning vector graphicsSkills-for-Life-Fundaninos-Feb-2012-2Skills-for-Life-CEPM-August-2011-2
design through the use of 3-D modeling software and manufacturing and
production with a CNC router in our workshop.

This month we were glad to invite 3 of the younger boys into our class
this year and the girls are helping them learn the basics of using the
tools. It is wonderful to see the multiplication of our efforts as the
students we have taught are now teaching others.

CULINARY ARTS CLASSES

The Culinary Arts classes that Sharie teaches to the teenage girls at
Fundaninos are progressing well, and, let me tell you, the food is good.
This year we printed up a cookbook for each student and they will beSkills-for-Life-Sports-camp-June-2012-22-1024x908Skills-for-Life-Sports-camp-June-2012-6-1024x731
working their way through it this semester.
The dishes they are learning to cook are delicious, healthy and
affordable to make. We will be hosting bake sales throughout the year
and are looking for opportunities for employment once they graduate.

COMPUTER TRAINING AT THE PRECIOUS MOMENTS SCHOOL & ORPHANAGE

At the Precious Moments School and orphanage, our vocational training
center is now open all week for afternoon classes.
Our two teachers provide instruction in computer skills, tutoring,
prayer and spiritual guidance for the students from the school, and we
are glad to see the progress they are making.
Please pray for the children here, as it is a very high crime location
where students have been lost to gang violence.

SUPPORT OUR WORK

All our work and programs are run on a voluntary basis, we do not
receive a salary for the work we do and are supported through donations,
if you would like to help make our programs possible it would be greatly
appreciated.
